Superintendent's Message

Superintendent Saxton and Sgt. Mike Sweeney

Superintendent Tim Saxton talks with Sgt. Mike Sweeney about School Safety.

  • There are the "brick and mortar" components like door locks, cameras and other physical precautions intended to keep buildings secure.

  • There are numerous drills and continual training that are practiced by students and staff and overseen by law enforcement.

  • There are good relationships.  In Boardman, we are fortunate to have  strong partnerships with all of Boardman Townships's safety forces.

Sgt. Michael Sweeney coordinates our team of school resource officers.  They are trained Boardman Police officers who are stationed in our buildings.  They know our staff and students, and they are actively involved in drug education, anti-bully and kindness efforts.  You will even catch our SRO'  throwing footballs, or playing volleyball with students on field days.  Good relationships and role models are also part of school security.

School Safety is a work in progress.  A daily effort that includes positive behavior support (PBIS) and behavioral and mental health supports.  Our guidance counselors and staff  provide another layer of support for students and families.
