CLASS OF 2019 AWARDED 4.3 MILLION IN SCHOLARSHIPS Scholarship winners Danny Turillo, Colin Russell, and Siena Larrick with Principal Fernback

On Wednesday, May 22, Boardman’s Class of 2019 was recognized during the Annual Honors Assembly.  Approximately 4.3 Million dollars in scholarship money was awarded and accepted by the class of 2019.

The annual senior awards ceremony honors high performing students in academics, athletics and the arts.  There are 24 “First in Class” students with perfect 4.0 GPA’s during their high school career. At least 8 seniors are pursuing military careers with substantial scholarships including two appointments to the prestigious Military Academy at West Point and the Air Force Academy.

UPDATE! SENIOR MILES SPEARMAN FEATURED AS NATIONAL TACO BELL SCHOLARSHIP WINNER Miles holds his 25,000 dollar check from the Taco Bell Foundation

At the end of the May 1 Band Concert, senior Miles Spearman got the surprise of his life...A Taco Bell Foundation Crew from California gave him a $25,000 Live Mas scholarship.  Miles was one of more than 14,000 seniors across the country to send in a video to the Foundation.  Now, he's featured as a National Scholarship Winner.

SPARTAN STADIUM: FINISHING FINAL PHASE 3 Groundbreaking Phase 3, Bruce Flyak, Denise Gorski, John Fryda, Tom Madej, Tim Saxton

The Boardman Boosters held the official groundbreaking for Phase 3 of the Stadium Project on May 1.  The final phase includes the construction of girls and boys locker rooms, restrooms, ticket booth and concession stand, with a brick walkway and donor wall.  CLICK HERE TO WATCH WFMJ STORY ON GROUNDBREAKING

We are very fortunate at Boardman Schools to have a compassionate and caring staff of guidance counselors, as well as community support from professional mental health agencies like Alta Behavioral Healthcare and Meridian Healthcare. 

This partnership, along with support from local spiritual leaders, allowed us to offer on site counseling at the High School and Glenwood Jr. High for students or staff on these days following a very difficult time.  Please read on for advice from our local professional mental health providers in the aftermath of the District's sudden loss.

BHS RANKS AMONG TOP OHIO HIGH SCHOOLS best high schools US News & World Report

Boardman High School is once again, ranked as a top High School in the State of Ohio, according to the rankings  released April 30 by US News & World Report. The national rankings consider college readiness, graduation rates, AP testing, and proficiency scores, among other factors. 

 

At #54 in Ohio this year, Boardman High School continues to be recognized as a high performing High School.  US News this year, ranked more than 17,000 schools nationwide.

Envirothon Team Heads to State Envirothon team places 1st Bryson Harris, Marrwa Kermagi, Justin Olsen, Sophia McGee, Shayne Harris, Heather Moran

The Boardman Envirothon team competed in Northeast Ohio's Envirothon competition on April 25. Forty five teams from throughout Northwest Ohio competed.  Boardman won the event!  They earned an all-expense paid trip to the State Envirothon Competition June 9-11 at Franciscan University of Steubenville.

BGJHS STUDENT EARNS THE PRIZE FOR WIND TURBINE DESIGN Cam Jeffrey with wind turbine designed for kidwind challenge

Cameron Jeffrey, a 7th grader at Glenwood Jr. High is the first Boardman student to take home the National Prize for winning the KidWind Challenge.  For nearly two years, dozens  of BGJHS student have competed in the monthly online contest.  Cam's entry earned him the $50 prize for March. 

MARINUCCI NAMED INCOMING ATHLETIC DIRECTOR Marco Marinucci

The Boardman Local School Board voted unanimously April 11,  to hire the district’s next Athletic Director.  Marco Marinucci of Boardman will replace Denise Gorski, who is retiring in June.  Marinucci’s 3-year contract begins July 1, 2019.   

BOARDMAN RECEIVES AUDITOR OF STATE AWARD Treasurer Nick Ciarniello and his staff

Boardman Schools  has received the Auditor of State Award for the 2017-18 fiscal year.  It is the State Auditor’s way of recognizing excellence in financial record keeping as well as sound accounting practices.

This is the 4th consecutive “Clean Audit” award for the Boardman Local Schools.

AMAZON FUTURE ENGINEER BOOSTS HIGH SCHOOL COMPUTER PROGRAM STUDENTS AT COMPUTERS FOR VIDEO GAME PROGRAMMING CLASS

BHS is now part of the Amazon Future Engineer program and will receive educational supports and training from Amazon to add a new dimension to Boardman’s computer science classes at the High School next year.  Boardman is one of 1,000 high schools selected nationwide for the program for the 2019-20 school year.
