SPRING ORCHESTRAS CONCERT MAY 22

The award-winning Boardman High School Symphony, Chamber and Classical Orchestras will present their annual Spring Orchestra Concert Wednesday, May 22 at 7 pm in the Boardman Performing Arts Center.

The combined Classical and Chamber Orchestras will open the concert with performances of  “Midnight Tango” by William Pordon, “Night Beat” by M.L. Daniels and “Contrasts in e minor” by Francis L. Feese.  The 27-member Chamber Orchestra will then perform the first and fourth movements of Gustav Holst’s “St. Paul’s Suite” and the sixth movement of Leos Janacek’s “Suite for Strings”.   The Symphony Orchestra will  perform an arrangement of music from the recently popular movie “The Greatest Showman”, the “Waltz from Masquerade Suite” and  Tchaikovsky’s “Marche Slave” to close the evening’s performance.

The senior solo competition winner of the evening will be Rithika Vangal on Piano.  She will perform the third movement of “Piano Concerto No. 1 in g minor” by Felix Mendelssohn.

Rithika, the daughter of Archana and Pandu Vangal, began playing piano at the age of four. She has received unanimous superior ratings in the Ohio Federation of Music Clubs Competition for the past 12 years and received the President’s Cup this year.  

Aside from piano, Rithika is also an accomplished violinist. She has received Superior ratings for Piano and Violin solos, a Violin duet and quartet, and String Quartets at the Ohio Music Education Association Competition.  

Rithika will attend the Ohio State University to study Neuroscience and minor in Spanish.  

Concert admission is $3 donation for Adults, and a $1 donation for students.  Senior Citizens are free. The Boardman Orchestra program is under the direction of Michele Prokop, Bill Amendol and Joel Monaco.
