Congressman Ryan Congratulates Boardman App Winners

Congressman Tim Ryan visited Boardman High School on January 7 to present certificates to the winners of the 2019 Congressional App Challenge for his (13th) District.

Emma Davis, Raneen Sulebi and Alara Erzurum worked together and invented and submitted an app entitled, "The Ohio Gun Obtaining Quiz."  It is an informative app with a goal of creating awareness of Ohio's current gun laws.

The app gives examples of scenarios that could happen when someone is trying to buy a gun in Ohio. The user goes through a series of yes or no questions and answers whether a person can legally buy or carry a gun in the described scenario.  An explanation for the correct answer appears on the screen after the user's response.

According to Emma, Alara and Ranean, the app was inspired by the mass shooting in Dayton, Ohio on August 4, 2019 --17 people were killed and 27 were injured.  “We thought people need to know and understand the current gun laws in Ohio before we can tackle what might need to be done next. The goal is to prevent future tragedies like the Dayton shooting,” the girls explained.
