          As you know, we have experienced the unexpected loss of one of our kindergarten students.  Anastasia Weaver was a beautiful six year old girl who loved school and unicorns. 

Welcome new Spartans!!  Kindergarten Registration for the 2023-24 School Year begins now with a two-step process.

Shows are Friday & Saturday, February 3 & 4 at 7 PM at the Boardman Performing Arts Center.

A daytime performance, Sunday, February 5 is also set for 2:30 PM.

As a result of new state legislation, teachers across Ohio are required to complete over 18 hours of professional development in Dyslexia prior to the start of the 2023-24 school year.

In order to accomodate this state requirement, Boardman will make 2 changes to this year's school calendar.

There will be a school wide waiver day on Tuesday, February 21-(No school for students, teachers report for training)

There will be a K-6 Waiver day on Wednesday, June 7. (No school for K-6 students, but teachers report)

The Final Day of school for K-6 students is Tuesday, June 6.

The Final Day of school for 7-12 students is Wednesday, June 7.

Congratulations to Boardman Officer David Jones, who was nominated by West Boulevard staff and students for the WYTV Hometown Hero Award.  Students were overjoyed when he received the award just before the holiday break.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE: BUS TRANSPORTATION/COMMUNICATION

The bus driver shortage is a national problem, and Boardman Schools Transportation Office is doing its best to navigate this challenge.  Good communication is key, as so many factors including weather, traffic situations, and driver shortages can cause delays and other sudden changes to bus routes.

We are urging parents to make sure they are signed up for the Transportation Department Remind messages.  Each bus has its own code, and you will find that code and other directions at the following links:

January is School Board Recognition Month in Ohio.  We thank our school board for their hard work and leadership! Board President John Landers, Vice President John Fryda, and members Jeff Barone, Vickie Davis, and Frank Zetts have more than 40 years combined service to our students and families.

Boardman Schools are so fortunate that our leaders devote hours of their time each week--You will see them at concerts, sporting events, and art shows--anywhere that our students are busy learning and forging their path to success.

The Spartan Marching Band appeared in the 47th annual Gatlinburg "Fantasy of Lights" Holiday Parade in Gatlinburg, Tennessee on Friday, December 2. More than 100 members of our marching band made the trip.

This is the second time Boardman's Marching Band was featured in this parade, winning "Best Band" four years ago.  One of our local television affiliates usually broadcasts this parade in its entirety, at least once during the Christmas Holiday break.  Watch for it!

Due to technical problems, we will no longer be using bioscan machines in our school lunch lines. 

All three elementary schools will be swiping ID cards as they did last year to purchase lunch. 

All buildings 4-12 will be keying in their ID numbers to buy lunch.

Reading aloud to children and giving them access to books is the best way to ensure they are prepared to enter kindergarten. The Ohio Governor’s Imagination Library mails young children one book each month until their 5th birthday. The program is available to all children in Ohio from birth to age 5 at no cost to their families.

Parents and caregivers can enroll their children at OhioImaginationLibrary.org.

Boardman Center Intermediate's school food pantry received an amazing boost, thanks to a generous partnership with the United Way and Sweeney Chevrolet!  United Way extended the  'Care Closet Campaign' to BCIS--now the 5th school in the Valley that benefits from this partnership, thanks to a generous donation from Sweeney. 

Boardman Glenwood Junior High held a ribbon cutting on September 21 to celebrate winning the $15,000  grand prize "Recycled Garden" in a regional contest sponsored by Terracycle, Brita and Meijer.   

The outdoor learning space was started in 2015 with a natural habitat and pollinator garden. This new grant of recycled garden beds, benches, picnic tables, and trash recepticles allow for the expansion of the outdoor classroom.

Boardman Glenwood Junior High had a $10,000 surprise this September--thanks to Boardman Subaru and the Subaru Loves Learning Campaign.

Twenty teachers received school supply kits, and $500 each toward whatever classroom items they need to meet the needs of their students. 

A big THANK YOU to the Boardman Walmart team!!  They delivered boxes full of school supplies to Stadium Drive Elementary--  Notebooks, pencils, paper, glue sticks, scissors, folders, pencil boxes...and the list goes on and on.  These will be shared among our three elementary buildings to meet student needs, and help fascilitate special classroom projects.  

We can't thank Walmart enough for sharing its surplus with our kiddos!!
